In 30-plus years of experience, Roger has developed a passion for working with historic and existing buildings and is listed in the Conservation Accredited Register of Engineers. He has been involved in a wide range of restoration, conversion, and repurposing projects.
Working with existing buildings, whether heritage or not, demands pragmatism and understanding of materials and methodologies that have been confined to history. Roger applies such knowledge to a risk assessment-based design, which can yield a solution to reusing a building. Taking a sensitive approach to industrial buildings such as the Spitfire Hanger and Mills Bakery, he helped guide their rescue through repurposing their strengths. His understanding of structural systems has allowed him to adapt historic structures to suit modern requisites in a sensitive and reversible manner.
Roger is active in professional institution affairs and mentors younger colleagues in pursuing professional qualifications to develop their careers. If there’s any spare time left over after all that, you may find Roger mountain biking in Wales or indulging in Bristol’s rich and vibrant music and culture scenes.
