Regina Energy and Sustainability Framework Implementation Plan and Design
The City of Regina wanted to develop full-scale zero- and low-emission vehicle implementation roadmaps for their fire, police, and civic (public works) fleets. These roadmaps aligned with the City's ambitious energy and sustainability framework goals, which include building retrofits, clean heating, net-zero new construction, renewable energy generation, and low-emissions vehicles. They engaged our team to help.
Guided by the City¡®s Energy and Sustainability Framework adopted in 2022, our roadmaps deliver a strategy for transitioning the City¡¯s portfolio of buildings and fleets to clean and renewable energy solutions. This includes detailed infrastructure requirements for the electrification of the City's fleets with over 900 vehicles. The project outcomes feature an in-depth analysis of the current state of the zero-emission vehicle and charging infrastructure industry, providing valuable insights for future planning.
We developed customized models using our proprietary tool ZEVDecide? to simulate and plan the electrification process for the City¡¯s diverse fleet, supporting efficiency and sustainability. We conducted a thorough evaluation of the infrastructure requirements necessary to support the electrification of the fleets to provide seamless transition to zero- and low-emission vehicles. Additionally, we provided a fleet acquisition plan and procurement cost to illustrate the potential benefits of switching to zero-emission vehicles.
The City of Regina¡¯s proactive approach demonstrates the tangible benefits of integrating advanced planning, design, and engineering solutions to achieve sustainability goals.
