Denver International Airport Great Hall

As one of the world¡¯s busiest airports with almost 70 million travelers passing through each year, Denver International Airport (DEN) wanted to enhance their Great Hall including the Jeppesen Terminal. They engaged our team to provide design leadership for a three-phase, multi-year program to improve safety and security, create more intuitive passenger flow, and increase capacity to accommodate continued growth by renovating the whole terminal.

During the first phase, we focused on renovating the middle portion of the terminal. This included creating all new hybrid ticket pods that will help streamline the baggage and check-in process, while also providing an intuitive entry to the terminal and its open, light-filled passenger experience.

For second phase, we designed two new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints on Level 6 in the northwest quadrant of the terminal to streamline security and balance the distribution of passengers. The east and west checkpoints include innovative passenger queueing and improved post-security circulation. Additionally, 34 new screening lanes incorporate automated tray returns, alarmed bag diverters, and remote screening for a faster and less intrusive screening process.

The third phase includes the upgrade of existing check-in counters, restrooms, and improved circulation to the south end of the terminal. As part of our services for this phase, we also managed the design team for the airport¡¯s Center of Equity and Excellence in Aviation. This first-of-its-kind facility is intended to create a pipeline of talent for Denver and the aviation industry more broadly, with a concentration on underserved communities, historically underutilized business, veterans, and women.

When this final phase is complete, travelers will be able to fully enjoy a more efficient and seamless travel experience as they pass through DEN.
