The collaboration, supported by Â鶹´«Ã½, is helping improve water quality across Scotland¡¯s urban environment

07/02/2025 EDINBURGH, UK TSX, NYSE: STN

An innovative alliance of water industry leaders supported by Â鶹´«Ã½, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been named ¡®Partnership of the Year¡¯ at the Water Industry Awards 2025.

The Improving Urban Waters Team, comprising Scottish Water, m2¡ªa Â鶹´«Ã½ and Mott MacDonald joint venture¡ªCaledonia Water Alliance (CWA), ARC (Atkins Realis and RPS JV) and Clancy, took the award home at the prestigious sector event in June.

The Water Industry Awards celebrate excellence across the UK water sector while showcasing industry best practice, innovation, and collaboration.

The award-winning partnership was established to support Scottish Water with improving water quality, increasing the monitoring and reduction of combined sewer overflow discharges and reducing sewer related debris across the country. As part of their work, the Improving Urban Waters Team is helping deliver more than a hundred specified water quality interventions and identifying many more locations for improvement by 2027.

Agile and collaborative

The team has taken an integrated and efficiency-driven approach, completing projects up to 50 percent faster than other conventional programmes by adopting an agile, lean and enterprise model. The partnership has set a new standard for efficiency, collaboration, and positive environmental impact in the sector.?

The impact is delivering significant environmental and societal benefits to communities across Scotland. The team has a focus on sustainability, including on the implementation of blue or green solutions to manage stormwater and reduce spills from storm overflows. The group are also developing sustainable catchment masterplans to support long-term mitigation around the country.

Integrated working to support better water quality

¡°Working with the wider group, our team as part of m2, has delivered measurable business and environmental benefits, embraced innovative, collaborative working practices, and contributed to Scottish Water¡¯s future capital investment programmes,¡± commented Scott Jackson, Â鶹´«Ã½¡¯s regional business lead for Water in the UK and Ireland.

He continued: ¡°The Improving Urban Waters Team sets a benchmark for the sector in tackling complex challenges through sustainable and efficient delivery methods, and we¡¯re delighted to receive this award in recognition of these efforts.¡±
