Lampwick - Ground Engineering and Structural Design
Manchester Life was set up to restart the regeneration and deliver housing for the city¡¯s growing professional population. They have developed over 1,460 homes and 20 commercial units, which have helped transform Ancoats into a vibrant, sought-after, and nationally recognised neighbourhood.
Lampwick is a 213-home, build-to-rent development that forms part of Manchester Life's phased regeneration and development across Ancoats and New Islington on the eastern edge of Manchester¡¯s city centre. Working on behalf of Manchester Life, John Sisk and Son contracted us to provide engineering services for this project.
Our geo-environmental and geotechnical teams conducted initial ground investigation work. We delivered the ground engineering design, remediation strategy, and materials management plan to inform the earthworks. We also undertook the work to local authority specification for sustainable drainage systems and attenuation.
Our structural and civil engineering teams provided the detailed technical design for the whole development to enable the construction. We developed a reinforced concrete structural frame, designed as flat slabs with blade columns, to reduce floor thickness and increase apartment size.
Lampwick is the third Manchester Life project in Ancoats that we have supported with engineering design.
Located on Old Mill Street and New Islington Marina, Lampwick comprises one block divided into three areas of varying height, ranging from five to ten storeys. The scheme also includes a residents' gym, amenity space, and four commercial units.
